Geographic flexibility

We do our job from different places

At Uniper, where we work is not limited to the office and the home office: we are free to choose where to work inside the employment country, as long as it is compatible with the team agreement and technical and data protection requirements are met.

Some employees are also eligible to work outside of the employment country - our “GeoFlex“ approach details the conditions for working abroad, based on the destination country, duration of stay and Uniper job function. GeoFlex currently includes most EU countries and the EEA as well as the UK and Switzerland.

GeoFlex
Claudia Tamm
Claudia Tamm , HR Expert:

„GeoFlex allows me to combine work and private life. I occasionally work from Lake Maggiore in Northern Italy where my extended family has a holiday home. I cherish a great cappuccino in the café next door before getting started with my workday – and when the last meeting is over, I enjoy taking a dip into the lake!”

Remote working within your country
Mohammadreza Ghodami
Mohammadreza Ghodami , Process Safety Engineer:

„As a remote worker in a dispersed team, we collaborate from the office, home office and power plants. Having the choice to live in Berlin with my girlfriend and where I have my social life and hobbies, while having an exciting job at Uniper is the perfect set-up for me. Meeting physically occasionally for a Team Day helps to keep up the team spirit, and solidifes the interpersonal relationships between us team members.”

Remote working within your country
Eppo Klootwijk
Eppo Klootwijk , Production Maintenance Coordinator:

„I work in the Maasvlakte power plant. The nature of my job limits the possibility to work from home, as many tasks are carried out on site. Still, the flexible work culture of Uniper allows me to perform also certain activities from remote.”

GeoFlex
Valmira Berisha
Valmira Berisha , Performance Lead:

„GeoFlex for me means that I do not have to choose between seeking experiences in new places and working for Uniper. With some upfront planning, I can easily do my job remotely while engaging in local cultures and meeting new people after work - even improving my Spanish! At the beginning I underestimated the positive impact that this has had on my work-life balance: it inspired me to take breaks from my regular routine. My next trip is already planned!”

Flexible work models

We shape your job to match your lifestyle

At Uniper, we understand that everyone is in a unique situation with different circumstances and needs. We also understand that these needs have the potential to change and evolve over time.

Uniper cares about the work-life balance of employees and offers a variety of flexible solutions to meet individual needs.

Parental Leave
Nils Fronda , Senior Transformation Lead:

Family is treated as a priority at Uniper. Our son was born prematurely, and when I had to leave work from one day to the next to look after my family, Uniper fully supported me in that decision. The experience of being the sole caretaker of my son for a few months has been priceless. I particularly appreciated that my manager encouraged me to take as much parental leave as possible, without compromising on my development opportunities in Uniper. At the end of the day: You‘re replaceable at work, but not at home!”

Job Sharing
Nikola Feldmann & Jenny Banczyk , Managing Director Uniper Wärme GmbH:

Nikola: „Sharing our role allows us to have more individual flexibility, higher productivity and mutual learnings.”

Jenny: „I personally enjoy this more than a conventional part-time position: I can enjoy my free time even more, because I can rely on Nikola taking care of the business in the meantime – and vice versa.”

Sabbatical
Anna Christina Drieling , Market Analytics/ Data Protection Officer for UGC:

„During my last sabbatical, I had plenty of time for family, friends, cycling, literature and concerts. As opposed to a regular holiday, during a longer break from work the schedule finds you as there is enough time for spontaneity & flexibility. I find it truly beneficial for my health to take longer breaks every once in a while, and I am thankful Uniper is offering this.”

Part-time
Bart Knippenberg , Business Developer & Contract Manager

„The decision to reduce my working hours to 80% was easily approved by my manager. Regarding my workload, I take on fewer projects than I did on a full-time schedule, but I still have the same opportunities to advance in my career. Also, the support from my colleagues is an important factor – for instance, everyone agreed that moving our weekly team meeting from Mondays to Tuesdays is not a problem at all. We always find a solution!”

Part-time
Clarissa Bucher-O’Flaherty, Senior IT Business Analyst:

„My wife and I are parents of two children. I have been working part-time for several years to support them as best as I can with the challenges at school and with their hobbies. Also with reduced working hours, I can fully participate in exciting projects and regularly take the opportunity to learn about new business topics. I also value Uniper as an employer for other reasons - whether it's the flexible way I perform my duties or my involvement in Uniper's LGBTIQ+ community - I'm happy to be fully supported by my manager and my team in my work-life balance."

Part-time
Yulia Long, Operational Excellence

"I feel Uniper has a great culture of supporting its employees in performing at their best and allowing for a great work-life balance. All the needed tools are in place for seamless connectivity and collaboration if a person needs to work from home. In my case I am able to work part-time and take care of my children without ever feeling disconnected or unable to fulfil my work responsibilities. Flex Work empowers me to attain my best on both front."

Parental Leave
Sven Rudloff , Vice President Employee Communication:

„When our daughter was born, I took 2 months off as parental leave and worked 75% for another 4 months, similar to my partner. It allowed us to better manage these significant changes. You’re never only a private person or only an employee, all of our roles are always a part of us. As a leader myself, I am convinced that getting and using the flexibility to properly balance these roles is good for yourself and everyone around you.”
